Literature Text

The stallion watched as the girl slowly opened the door.
What was she doing? Her feet moved silently along the floor.
She walked up to it and patted its face in the dead of the night.
She hid the deadly weapon that would take her tonight.

Burying her head in the creatures mane, she sobbed hard.
The rip through her soul cut like a glass shard.
She couldn’t take life anymore, why was she even alive?
That wasn’t the question - how was she meant to survive?

Sobbing was useless she knew but she had to.
The pain built up and it all flooded through.
Her tears traced down the neck of that great horse.
Leaving dark patches that showed the ending course.

Stroking the stallions scarred face, she knew he knew pain.
She knew he understood her, he didn’t want to go through it again.
His body riddled with memories, as is hers now.
Those vicious things that are so very foul.

Looking into the stallions eyes, she whispered with a soft voice.
"You know how I feel - you understand my choice.
Please, take me away so I may finally be free.
Just be my friend on which you will always be."

She vaulted the horses back and together they flew.
What a magnificent sight against the midnight blue.
Man and beast joined as one, racing across the land.
Running from the pain that they couldn’t stand.

Stopping near a small river that glistened with love.
The crystal tears fell, fell from the heaven above.
The rain washed her of the dirt from the ride.
Flooding her soul with the darkest killing tide.

She sobbed and looked up for anything.
What could she do - no longer to sing?
She pulled out her weapon, one so often used.
This time it will take her - and not just abuse.

The stallion stood patiently, waiting for her.
The rain fogged his mind - his vision, a blur.
She walked into the stream and let loose her hair.
It fell down her back, so pretty and so fair.

She took the knife and held it to her heart.
Finally she would stop being torn apart.
Closing her eyes, she was about to plunge.
When a voice rang out, to her did lunge.

"Please don’t, don’t do it - don’t die.
I need you here, and I know you do cry.
But don’t follow through with your life.
Just come with me and avoid the knife."

Her lover stood there and begged with her.
Her eyes misted in a vision blur.
Couldn’t he see the pain it caused her soul.
She was life's torturous goal?

"I can't make it, can't you see?
I am weak, weaker than you can be.
Just let me go… let me be free.
I beg you, just leave me."

He shook his head and walked closer.
He pulled her close - like an enfolded brochure.
He held her as she sobbed in the water.
The rain covering what was to be a slaughter.

She shook violently against his grip.
He closed his eyes at near deaths trip.
She pulled away, still blade in hand.
Looking at him, she gave word of the land.

"I have suffered and I know you have too.
But unlike you, I cannot make it through.
I tried to stand strong, just like you.
But my life is to end, to be through."

The stallion watched on with unease.
Her lover begged, "don’t do it please.
You are strong, stronger than you know.
Please keep living so this will show."

Her grip on the knife loosened a bit.
She fell with the knife in a sobbing fit.
The water washed her body and he held her tight.
Together, they cried in the dead of the night.

Today, they are seen together and alive.
She is admired by many, she did survive.
The horse is the best memory of that night.
It knew better than to mess with life's might.
